Social Influence Creates Social Norms This week in our book we briefly went over the topic of social norms in chapter 1. Social norms are an outcome of social influence (University of Minnesota Libraries Publishing, 2015). Social influence is the pursue to switch or shift the behaviors or beliefs of individuals. Social norms can include rules, traditions, values, customs, etc. Social norms affect the way people behave and act in different situations. Social norms differ in various cultures and countries. Western culture norms tend to focus on individualism, while Eastern culture norms are more toward collectivism (University of Minnesota Libraries Publishing, 2015).
