Within the first weeks of classes here at Manchester Community College, students’ social norm is during the first week of classes students pick the seat that they will sit in for the rest of the semester in the class. In two of my classes I want to see how people would act if I didn’t sit in the seat that I was “assisted” with for about the past 12 weeks of classes.
In the first class I usually sit three rows in at the front, but I decide to sit in the end row one seat from the back. I choose this class because there are two students with the same name and the professor knows them as the left side of the room student and right side of the room student. I choose to sit in one of the same named student’s seat to see what would happen. The students came and gave dirty looks to one another for take their seat just like in the class above, but upon the arrival of one student something different happened. When one student came into class and there was another student in her seat she began telling the guy sitting in her seat, that it was her seat and that is where she sits during this class. He instead of getting up and giving her the seat, proceeded to tell her that her name was not on the seat and he could sit there if he want to. Her face became angry and began turning red as she yelling at the guy sitting in the seat about it being her seat. At this point the professor steps in and tells her that she can just sit in a near open seat by that one. But she did not like that because she proceeded to angrily walk out of the room. The professor went into the hall and talked to her both re-entered little later and the student did end up sitting in a different seat. And every day since that class all the student have stayed in their original first day seats.
