Social norms have given society a bad reputation by placing unrealistic standards on men and women. In society it is socially normal for a man to be a provider, strong, and hard working for his family. And as for the woman, she should be graceful, loving, and submissive for a man. For an example, Dorothy Parker demonstrated in her short story “A Telephone Call” how men and women have standardized roles in dating. In the end results, this teaches the reader that following social norms can cause self harm mentally and emotionally.
