A person’s physical features can be identical to your parents, such as eye color from their father or hair color from their mother. However, their personality and talents may not have come solely from either parent. It is likely that some traits are determined at birth, whereas others are adapted from the environment as the person grows up. Nature and nurture are both topics that are heavily debated in today’s society. Although some may be more heavily shaped by the people surrounding them, I claim that it is a combination of both primary and secondary discourse communities form a person to be who they are because of the community they grew up, genetics, and the people whom they surround themselves with. Whether that be from a sport, club, class, or church group, the people inside of each group act in certain ways, forming different personalities. During the formation process of these groups, the people inside change their personalities in order to fit in with the norm. Though everyone is different in their own way, one is going to grasp the specific ideals that each person gives off to generate their own identity. Study shows that it has been proven that people are shaped by the ones they surrounded themselves with. In the academic journal, “One Foot Out of the Nest: How Parents and Friends Influence Social Perceptions in Emerging Adulthood" by Tanzania Ahmed and Claudia Brumbaugh, a study was done with one hundred and sixty-five people to see if they were influenced by the ones around them. Study shows that, “Friends do appear to become more important in young adulthood as emerging adults increasingly rely on friends, rather than parents, to fulfill attachment needs” proving that the people who they surround themselves with play a role in their life (Ahmed and Brumbaugh 3). This goes to show that, with the people a person’s surrounds themselves with, their personality will rub off on them, shaping their life to become more like theirs to fit
