Unfortunately, women who get pregnant after this event can be left in distraught. According To Alanna Vagianos, an author at Huffington Post, "every 98 seconds someone in the U.S. is sexually assaulted. That means every single day more than 570 people experience sexual violence in this country." Of these 570 people, 94 percent of the women will experience post-traumatic stress disorder during the two weeks directly after being raped. The stress can be overbearing for one person especially when they did not have a choice in the situation. Nobody is prepared for sexual assault and a pregnancy can be a consequence that the woman did not predict. The victim should have the choice of terminating the pregnancy because it could cause mental health disorders and complications later in the child's life. One day, the child might ask who their father or worse, the rapist could gain parental rights. According to CNN, In 20 states and D.C., a rape conviction is required before a victim can request termination of parental rights. The victim would have to fight their attacker over parental rights! The idea of this is absurd, but it is a possibility which is why women chose to terminate the pregnancy. If women were forced to deliver a child that came from sexual assault, then the suicide rate would rise drastically.
