The sociological view of gender is as a social construction, where the differences between the sexes are exist because we attach meanings, value, beliefs and expectations through social interactions (textbook). These meanings, values, beliefs and expectations shape how we interact with people of each gender and how we interpret their actions. The male gender, the concept of what a “man” is, what that means and the expectations it entails, therefore does not exist outside society and social interaction.
I think socialization plays a strong role in both establishing and policing gender norms. The gender system is the result of socialization by families, schools, our peers and the mass media that teach men and women appropriate/acceptable ways
