In the speech "Ain’t I A Woman," the author, Sojourner Truth, expresses her opinion on equal rights for women of all color. In 1851, she speaks to a gathering of feminists about the unfairness she feels is present in the minds of U.S citizens. Truth explains that, though it is often thought that women should be treated with chivalry, no one ever gave her the same respect. She also suggests that, despite claims that women need help getting into carriages and walking over ditches, she could do all of it and more. The author describes her life as a slave, and everything that made her strong, going against the belief that women were inferior.
