Introduction
The research proposal conducted will help analyze and hopefully help understand solitary confinement as it relates to mental illness in male inmates. The discussions, observations, and findings from peer reviews within the topic of solitary confinement possibly leading to mental illness will be introduced. This information will consist of elements of the criminal justice system, prisons, mental illness, behavior observations and evidence found within these reviews on how solitary confinement may relate to mental illness. The purpose of this proposal is to see if solitary confinement is causation for mental illness.
The observations made within this paper will include documentation of interviews performed, questionnaires, and references utilized. The construction in timeline on the journals found will also determine findings that may help find an understanding of the concepts in mental health and solitary confinement. These concepts will consist of when these individuals were placed in solitary confinement, how these individuals were placed in solitary confinement, the conditions and infrastructure of the solitary confinement, the treatment received during solitary confinement, the length of time in solitary confinement and the mental health of the individual

The findings will be pieced together to conclude whether solitary confinement may lead to mental illness. The comparison and contrast of epistemology obtained will be crucial. Although many researchers have come up with different conclusions this research will hopefully give an understanding of the process of solitary confinement, what defines solitary confinement and the conclusion of mental illness if any from those who were placed in solitary confinement. My expectation is to conclude whether mental illness is caused by solitary
