There are tons of controversies over the designs of lockers, especially in the few recent years at South Christian. South Christian is getting a new building and there has already been a competition held for what the new lockers should look like. Steelcase-who is producing the lockers-selected a winner of the competition and put a life-size version of part of their design in South Christian’s building. The only problem was that basically, everyone hated the design. I don’t want to be too discriminating, but there are a few problems with the design that can definitely be reviewed. Shelves in the original lockers at South can’t even fit binders and books on the shelves! Also, the shape of the new design is diamond-shaped and it can only fit a backpack or books and binders, not both. Another problem is that the new winning design is diamond-shaped, so everything is at an angle. Where would a drink be put without spilling it, because surely if it was set on the floor someone would knock it over with their foot? Books and binders would be put on an angle and the only way to grab a binder or book on the bottom of the sideways stack is by lifting everything else which is heavy and clumsy. We can only have half-size lockers because there isn’t enough space for full-sized ones in the new building, but we can still work with it. Some people put all of their books and binders in their backpack, but the majority of people don’t. It’s extremely heavy and it isn’t great for our backs. That’s why we need a specific place for books and binders, preferably a shelf. It’s easier to obtain books from a higher shelf otherwise, we would all be bending down a ton, but make sure it’s not too high otherwise the books and binders can’t fit in
