Today, I am going to talk to you about something that has greatly influenced my life. Panic Attacks. First of all for those of you who do not know what a panic attack is, it is a moment of intense fear and overwhelming anxiety that can last from a couple of minutes to many hours. A panic attack can strike at any moment, and usually reaches its peak within 10 minutes. Some things that you may be feeling during a panic attack would be a fear of dying, experiencing a heart attack, feeling faint or nauseated, a numb sensation throughout the body, or losing control of yourself. Having a panic attack is said to have been one of the most intensely frightening, upsetting, and uncomfortable experiences of a person’s life and may take days to recover from it. These events most often begin during the late teens and early adult hood and strikes twice as many American women as men. No one knows that causes panic disorder, some researchers suspect a combination of biological and environmental factors including family history, stressful life events, and drug and alcohol abuse. Some other research suggests that your bodies natural fight or flight response to danger is involved in panic attacks. But its not known why a panic attack occurs when there is no obvious danger present. Over time, many who suffer from panic attacks develop an on-going fear of having another attack.
