The “Stand Your Ground” Law.

Approximately 2011 was the year when the "Stand Your Ground" law was enacted in the United States. This law was intended to be a self-defense law, allowing you to use deadly force to protect yourself without incurring the repercussions of homicide. Yet, it has not achieved this goal, as many claim to use this as an excuse to "subdue" attackers. Trayvon Martin's case was an exception. The use of deadly force was not warranted, but the defender believed there might have been a reason for it. The number of homicides has increased in several studies. Some might agree that it was needed, others might use it as a cover-up for otherwise unjustified murder. Both have shown some value, whether they change the rules for the better or for the worse. Some states have something similar called the "Castle Doctrine”, which is what the Trayvon Martin case focused on before “Stand Your Ground” was introduced. The “Castle Doctrine” is the act of defense against personal property such as vehicles or housing, but you can’t chase after said attacker. This is why the “Stand Your Ground” law should be less lenient in related cases.
