A Fifteen year old African American male, David Chance was shot and killed by thirty seven year old, Harris Armstrong. Mr.Armstrong claimed to have shot and killed fifteen year old David Chance out of self-defence. Mr.Armstrong’s words were “he aggressively approached me with a large piece of wood, when I was on my way home.” He was not charged for the murder of fifteen year old David Chance. “The ‘Stand Your Ground’ law causes an additional seven hundred murders each year nationwide. (Stand Your Ground Linked To Increase In Homicides). “After Georgia passed its ‘Stand Your Ground’ law the number of homicides has drastically increased by eightythree percent.” (southernstudies). Although some people believe the “Stand Your Ground” is fair, research shows that it increases the percentage of African American homicide; therefore the “Stand Your Ground” law should be abolished. …show more content…
Due to the stereotyping of African American males, more crime has taken place because of the continuing negativity surrounding the race. For instance, “homicides has doubled for African Americans due to racial profiling.” (Jesse Jackson). Racial profiling refers to decimation due to law enforcements by targeting citizens by their race. The “Stand Your Ground” law enables citizens to use deadly force when they feel endangered, but yet it is a major problem for racial homicides. Author states “ This shows the sheer of black homicide victims between 2006 through 92012 it barely changed in fact, it rose from 529 to 532 Africans Americans due to racial profiling.” (Jesses Jackson).
