Students will be able to Compare two fractions with different numerators and different denominators by creating common denominators or numerators.

4.NF.2 - Compare two fractions with different numerators and different denominators, e.g., by creating common denominators or numerators, or by comparing to a benchmark fraction such as 1/2. Recognize that comparisons are valid only when the two fractions refer to the same whole. Record the results of comparisons with symbols >, =, or <, and justify the conclusions, e.g., by using a visual fraction model.

c) Describe students’ prior knowledge or focus of the previous learning. What did they do yesterday that relates to today’s lesson?
Yesterday, students completed a worksheet that compared fractions that had the same denominator.

d) Describe summative assessment(s) for this particular lesson. How will you know if they mastered the objective in part a?
At the end of the day I will give students a three-question quiz.

e) Describe the characteristics of your students who will require differentiated instruction to meet their diverse needs impacting instructional planning in this lesson of the unit. Students who have special learning needs (dyslexia, ADHD, vision impairment, etc.)
Emma (random name) has dyslexia. Because of her learning disorder, she tends to struggle in reading, writing, and math lessons. For example, she gets her letters and numbers mixed up when reading or writing. In order to meet her diverse learning needs, she is allowed to either pick a partner and work quietly with him/her, use an online math helper website, or additional practice/tutoring with me.

A short three question quiz.

Assessment Accommodations:
If a student is having difficulties with the quiz, I will read the equations to her and even set up one of them to refresh her brain.
