Have you heard of standardized tests? Standardized tests are tests that are required by the state. In my opinion standardized tests are a waste of time. My claim is that standardized tests waste a lot of class time, and the government should cut down on standardized tests. In this essay I will explain why schools are spending too much time teaching too the tests because 1. it takes up too much class time, 2. more tests don’t equal better tests, and 3. we need get rid of low quality tests. First I’m going to discuss standardized tests taking up too much class time. One reason is because in one year students on average are having to spend 20-25 hours taking standardized tests. This means almost a full day a year is test taking and that's too …show more content…
One reason is the US took 112 tests and were still outperformed by other countries. This means a lot of tests don’t make you smarter because other countries who only took 3 performed better. Also a man named Carvalho reduced his tests from 300 to 10 and none in elementary. This means Carvalho cut 200 tests that were low quality and didn’t help the children. This paragraph has discussed more tests don’t equal better results. Now this paragraph will discuss getting rid of low quality tests and keeping the good ones. One reason is they overlap and a man named Casserly cut tests as well. This means they have the same content and some aren’t needed. Also Casserly kept the good high quality tests and they are doing good. This means they are doing better with just the high quality test not the bad ones. This paragraph talked about getting rid of low quality tests and keeping good ones. Lastly this paragraph will discuss why other people think standardized tests are a good thing. Standardized test show how good students are doing. But they take 2-4 months to get the results. This means they take too long for the results so the teacher doesn’t have time to help the student.
