Stereotypes: Prejudice Against Colored People

There was once a girl named Callie who was learning about black history and how people were prejudice against colored people. She was getting knowledge on how people were mistreated and the discrimination methods that were used against colored people. She was learning that people of colored had to use different restrooms and water fountains. She was learning about how in the black community they would discriminate against their own family. While she was learning about how in history people would treat you differently because of the color of your skin, she begins to make connections with her reality.

She cried out “they would pull my hair” and ask me “why you talk so white”. Her mom began to comfort her, and her dad was in total shock because he didn’t know that this was going on at school. She also stated that” yes, I know during slavery people were treated differently because of the color of your skin but we’re all are brown and black.” After she said that, her parents begin to tell her a story about a slave named Ruth. Her mom starts by saying” Ruth was a light skin who was birth by her mother who was a slave and her mom’s master who raped her mom.” She continued on saying “Ruth was label as a house slave when she got 15 years old.” Her mom continues to explain what was a house slave. She said a “house slave was someone who cooked and cleaned.” They would cook for the master’s family. The house slave would sew clothes for the master’s family and care for the master’s younger children. The house slave was also a surrogate to the wife of the master. “The house slave was seen as having a better lifestyle than the field slave”, said Callie’s
