It became evident to me that many individuals in treatment centers where I interned were experiencing complex problems that led to their drug addiction. They were suffering from emotional pain. With every individual I spoke to, I heard continuous recounts of childhood abuse, emotional abuse, failed relationships, and the grievance of loved ones. It is my belief that an effective way to treat their emotional turmoil is to address what happens in their relationships. I am certainly a highly motivated individual. I enjoy learning different perspectives on various areas of development and theories pertaining to my field of study.
A Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy will help me meet my educational and career goals by providing me with exceptional skills and knowledge in the family counseling field. I will use the degree to bring me closer to my goal of practicing as a Marriage and Family Therapist. After I graduate, I plan to obtain my LMFT license and work as a therapist specializing in trauma. It is my goal to work in an agency setting after obtaining my Master’s degree. It is a dream of mine to eventually own a private practice in Marriage and Family Therapy and earn my Doctoral degree.
I am particularly interested in researching factors contributing to resilience, effects of trauma and trauma treatment, and family dynamics regarding divorce and mental health.
I am confident that further education and experience will assist me in meeting my goals of becoming a competent, passionate, and educated
