This study composed of 2 parts with people 18 years older and older whose sodium intake levels were recommended at 1500 mg Na/d. Furthermore, in phase 1 of the study participants ate a diet low sodium diet provided to them for four weeks, to help lower sodium consumption. Additionally, phase 2 consisted of 40 participants that were assigned to one of two groups for 20 weeks, in order to reduce intake of sodium; the self-directed control group and behavioral intervention group. These participants sodium intake is determined by a urine test, to test for sodium excretion. Participants are randomly assigned to either group. Moreover, participants in this study are adults from Baltimore,
