I am writing in response to the editorial request to determine whether to publish the article “Reforming Immigration for Good” by Mae M. Nagi. After analyzing the article “Reforming Immigration for Good” I highly recommend editorial for publication of this article in The Shorthorn Newspaper because everyone needs to be informed about reforming immigration in the United States and should understand about immigration law. There are various credible reasons for my recommendation for publishing this article. Firstly, Ngai demonstrates her concerns for immigrants living in the United States and tried to inform the readers about reforming immigration. Thirdly, the article covers a controversial topic about the immigration that is famous among the political figure and public, which is related to the majority of the UTA students including their parents. Therefore, analysis of Ngai’s article would be an argument about immigration reform where she informs and try to convince her readers by using mixture of rhetorical appeals, such as logos appeal she use to explain the budget spent on border control to stop immigration, use of pathos appeal to describe how immigration has stuck due to border control, and she use ethos appeal to build her character as effective author by providing facts information. This article is very attentive and have the potential of attracting lots of readers of The Shorthorn because it is relatable to most student’s aspect of life and their future, especially, to the all immigrations students who are working hard towards making a better …show more content…
She mentioned “The promise to “secure the border” made for good polices even before 1986, when congress passed the last comprehensive immigration reform bill. In the last quarter- century we have spent approximately $187 billions on enforcement, mostly along the United States-Mexico border.” This statement clearly expressing that the United States has spent $187 billions just to toughen the border of United State-Mexico, so they can stop immigrants from coming in. This statement provided by Ngai is effective and logical because she presented the facts that directly came from the United States history talking about the money they have spent so far on the name of border security. At this point, she has developed her trust to readers by providing true information. Since this article was published on The New York Time, we can say that this fact is trustworthy. The point I am trying to make here by providing this statement with a logical explanation is that Ngai’s wants people to be aware and be well informed about the facts that the billions of dollars has been already spent by United States on border security, which has not stop the immigrant’s entries. By publishing this article in The Shorthorn, it might help audiences to understand why United States is in debts and still spending lots of money.
