1. There are six steps in our book for the rational of good decision making. The first being Identifying the Problem, finding the underlying issued that needs to be resolved. (Certo, 2015)
Our book states that the supervisor often notices the problem but what is not stated is that many times upper management will notice the problem and hand down orders. It will then be up to the supervisor to resolve the problem. A following step that is in a different order in our book is Gathering Information, (Rational Decision Making Model, 2017) I think this step is very important early on, decisions made with poor information can really hurt those affected. Be creative in finding or creating your alternative solution, explore as many possibilities suited to the situation or time frame. The next item in making a rational decision is Gather and Organize Facts. Another model I found has this step before Identify Alternative Solutions. (Rational Decision Making Model, 2017) I did not find the Getting Feedback step on any of the sources I looked at. I think this step is very important simply because nothing is every perfect, there will always be course corrections and corrective actions needed. The supervisor will have to listen to and follow feedback about the chosen solution. The supervisor needs to monitor the solution so is done correctly and effectively. Being there along the way to answer any questions. Overall this model is a very effective tool because it is disciplined, consistent and logical. It is very helpful in breaking down what can be very complex decisions so solutions can found more effectively. The sequential process of the Rational Decision Making Model give the supervisor a great opportunity to choose the most optimal
