Do you know who created women’s rights? Well, in this story, I will be talking about Susan Brownell Anthony. Susan B. Anthony was born in Adams, Massachusetts. She was born on February 15, 1820. Her father, Daniel, and her mother, Lucy, were Anthony’s parents. Her siblings were Guelma, Hannah, Mary, Daniel, and Jacob. They were Quakers who believed that the girls should have equal education just like the boys did and also didn’t believe in dancing, singing, fancy clothes, or drinking. Lucy was a Baptist until her marriage, and Daniel was a Quaker. Quakers are pacifists, they don’t believe in war or violence. Anthony didn’t have any toys, her father expected. This is because only boys can have a better education than girls. When Anthony’s dad found out, he dropped Anthony out of school and created a school where all children have equal education. Since Anthony’s dad is a Quaker, she didn’t do or learn any sports or hobbies. Anthony grew up and now she’s heading into adulthood. In the 1830’s, the country fell into an economic depression and Anthony’s family lost everything. Anthony was 19, moved out to an old tavern that her family rented and lived in Hardscrabble, New York. She moved out to make more money for her family.Teaching was one of the only jobs open to women at the time, so she started working as a teacher in a school near her old tavern. Eventually, her job didn’t last long. Anthony complained that male teachers get paid 4-5 times more than female teachers do, which made her fired. Then she was a reformer and a speaker. Anthony made ideas about temperance movement like alcohol, or letting women have rights, and ending slavery. She spent decades traveling from one town to another, giving lectures and speeches.
