Do suspensions help students? Do they just distract the students from getting a proper education? Do they help get rid of animosities the students now have? The problem with suspension is that more suspensions have been linked to higher dropout rates in students. Another problem is that it just removes the problem for a short amount of time and when the student gets back the problem hasn’t actually been solved at all and could even occur again. They also can keep long lasting grudges between students if the problem isn’t explained and corrected before hand. Although some people think suspension gives students time to calm down, think about what they have done, and plan how to apologise; you shouldn’t give suspension to students because the more suspensions a student has the more likely they are to dropout, it also just removes the problem for a short amount of time, and it can cause long lasting grudges between students. …show more content…
In the article “School suspensions don’t work” by David Bulley, it states that in schools all around the country that have started the restorative justice system are seeing drops in suspensions, dropouts, and have even seen better test scores. One might claim that it’s not the suspensions that are causing the dropouts but rather their attitude about school that's causing them to dropout, but one may argue that the student could dropout because they missed so much of the information taught that they were overwhelmed and quit. So it stands to reason that when suspensions stop students’ test scores go up, drops in dropout rates
