In the article, “Race and Class: Blacks Still Taking the Hit,” the article explains how the market is affected by racism by mentioning on how the official unemployment rate is 50% higher for African Americans compared to Whites. Also the article mentioned that “A study published in the American Economic Review reports that applicants with Black-sounding names received 50% fewer callbacks than those with White-sounding names” (Miah). Basically, African Americans will have a harder time finding a job due to the fact that they were born “differently’ aka their skin color. In the article, “Statistics That Hurt,” the article mentions on how there is a wage gap between African Americans and Whites. Research was conducted and the results came out to be shocking, Whites were offered more compensation compared to blacks, and employers would offer lower wages to the African Americans at first, but as time progressed with superb work ethics, the employer would offer more money. The article is basically saying that the African American’s skin will affect how they will be paid.
