Throughout the book he struggles with so many things from Erik to his visual disabilities. Paul feels he needs to make a change just like everyone else, how will he do it? As Paul struggles with his confidence, he doesn't feel important, but soon he learns that he can make a change, and begins to build himself up.

Moreover, Paul and Joey Costello also save many students from the dangerous sinkhole. “We pulled and grabbed kids as they made their way up the slippery incline to the top.” Instead of running away and leaving the students, Paul knows he has to be brave and help the portables stuck in the thick mud. Ultimately, Paul makes a change, he is the leader who pulls out the grounded kids. In this novel, Paul changes the way he thinks, acts, and reacts. He becomes a more confident, courageous, and bold person who can change the world.
