The building I chose from the “Ten Buildings that Changed America” video is the Trinity Church is Boston, Massachusetts. The exterior of the building is composed of varying shades of brown bricks and stone which gives it an earthy and inviting vibe. The exterior features many arches and other embellishments and designs that give the exterior of the church a detailed and visually appearing figure. There are many statues of people hewn into the rock and carved out along the outside of the building and the roofs of the building are angled cones in shape. The tops of the roofs are adorned with crosses and there are many spires and turrets that jut from the main body of the church upward creating a unique silhouette. At the far end of this room there is an altar and a finely decorated curved wall with stained glass windows behind it. Above the altar is a grooved domed arch and an intricately detailed painting on the wall near the ceiling bright colors. The transept of the church is small and contains second level seating on balconies. The church has a vibrant and bright color scheme of rich reds, radiating yellows and warm shades of black. The Trinity Church relates to Islamic architecture and elements in it were definitely inspired by ancient Islamic mosques and other buildings. The church uses many basic elements in common with Islamic buildings and some design elements inspired directly by Islamic architecture. Both the Trinity church and many mosques use towers and spires to outline and add to the buildings design. These tall structures give the buildings beautiful and complex silhouettes through the use of line. Line is used by framing the towers against the sky in a way that the edges and outline of these towers are easily visible.
