Abortion has been the one of the great debate to many people; many counties have different laws and beliefs about abortion, but why would abortion be such a debatable topic in the first place? An abortion, a medical procedure, it is performed during the first 28 weeks of a pregnancy. In addition, many people believe that having an abortion is morally wrong and goes against many religious beliefs. In many countries, there have been cases of women, and young girls, who have been raped often resulting in unwanted pregnancies. Without the option of an abortion. In my view, I strongly agree with having the right to abort in difficult situations such as rape. It’s a scary and traumatic crime that happens all over the world and far too many victims. According to the United States Department of Justice Bureau of Justice Statistics, only 31% of rapes are reported to law enforcement and at least 1-5% of sexual assaults - result in pregnancy. Furthermore, national rape-related pregnancy rate is 5.0% per rape among victims of the ages 12-45. I believe these tragic accidents can happen to a young girl, to a woman, even to a love one that we may know. They should be given the right to choose if they would want to terminate the pregnancy or not. One does not understand the emotional, -or the mental experience that one goes through in these situations and to carry a child from the abuser is heartbreaking. The Mexico City Policy was first resigned in 1984. This law prohibits allocation of U.S funding to non-governmental organizations that offer abortion services or information about the procedure. The only exceptions that the government will allow is in some rape or incest cases. In my opinion, I strongly disagree with the government’s policy as women should have the right to decide for themselves, because it is their body, their emotional state of mind and what they settle for is their decision and not the governments.
