American with Disabilities act was rather the culmination of a variety of incidents spread over America. It began when a disabled person raised his or her voice against the injustice and discrimination they had to face. It began when another worried parent of a disabled child raised his or her voice against the isolation and segregation of the child that they had to face. This act evolved from simple people who started raising their voice all over the country. Soon these isolated people turned into local groups who advocated for the rights of people with disabilities. The battle was against the idea that disabled people needed to be institutionalized and that they could not contribute anything to society. ADA was not visualized overnight, rather it was a movement started by not one, not two rather thousands of people. These people did all they could for the cause that they believed in. They worked for years, organizing and attending protests, licking envelopes, sending out alerts, drafting legislation, speaking, testifying, negotiating, lobbying, filing lawsuits etc. so that disabled persons could start living up to their full potential.
