Friendship in the Boy in the Striped Pyjamas is a non stop occurrence not only with the main character Bruno but with many other people in the novel. When Bruno lived in Berlin he had 3 close friends Karl, Daniel and Martin, but when Bruno found out he was leaving Berlin his friends were no longer friends. Bruno arrived in Out-With and after a few months he went exploring and found his new best friend Shmuel. Shmuel became Bruno's one and only friend. When Bruno felt down or lonely he would go see Shmuel although they never played together they just enjoyed each others company.
