The Clouds Essay
In the clouds Socrates makes numerous statements regarding the charges against him and his feelings towards his sentencing. The question was asked, "Do I agree with his methodology to his defense in the apology?" My answer is partially yes and partially no because he is very shifty in his approach to dodge the legal system in his Apology. Here is why I believe this to be true. The first one consists of an introductory statement that Socrates makes concerning the manner of his speaking. I believe he is truthful about his way of speaking because he lived it every day. If you were to be placed in Athens at the time you could honestly see him practicing his method everyday in the city center. Now granted no one liked it except him, but this singular statement is true because it was his lifestyle. This is why I believe this part of the prompt to be right.
Now this is followed by an account of the specific accusations made with reference to his life and daily activities. I believe this to not be truthful because no one truly knows his everyday life, so they may have embezzled on the truth to make him out to be more of an enemy instead of a peaceful and smart thinking philosopher. So, I believe in this case Socrates may have been wrong in his defense methods.
Finally , Socrates makes a prophetic rebuke of the judges for believing that they will live at ease and with an untroubled conscience after pronouncing
