The novel, The Color Purple, by Alice Walker, analyzes many important themes including love. Through Walker’s depiction of Celie and Nettie’s relationship as well as Mr.___ and Harpo’s relationship, it is evident that love does not conform to gender roles nor stereotypes. The stereotypical romantic relationship is often depicted as a man in power and the classic ‘damsel in distress’.
