Writing Assignment 2
Case Study #1: Plagiarism Plagiarism is something that all individuals have done before whether it is intentional or not. In high school plagiarism was very common because having to write research papers and all types of reports were over whelming at that age and we also were in the process of learning how to cite and paraphrases other individuals work. In college I believe plagiarism still exist, but as much as it did in high school. I am not to sure if it is very common at the University of Cincinnati yet because this is my first semester here, but from I have observed from my class I think that plagiarism is possible to occur among college students. the consequences for plagiarism seem to be more punishing in college as they were compared to high school. In high school if you plagiarized in a paper you might get a warning and the teacher would either let you fix the paper and write another or just give you a failing grade on the paper. In college when you are caught plagiarizing you expelled or suspended and are given a failing grade for the semester in that class I believe. Even though in high school it says in the handbook of whatever school you are attedning that no cheating or plagiarizing is allowed it seems to be more flexible, but at that age we are stilling learning to cite others. In college the rules do not bend and I agree that they shouldn't be flexible to an extent because we are all at an age where we should know what plagiarism is and how to prevent it since our english classes prepare us for that, but if it is the first offense we should recieve a failing grade and second offense
