“...I will cut off my hand before I’ll ever reach for you again.” This statement was made by John Proctor while speaking to Abigail in the play, “The Crucible”, written in both a play and a movie by Arthur Miller in 1952, a story of the Salem witch trial in 1692. The story began with young girls dancing in the woods, were discovered, which, began the accusations of witchcraft in Salem. Both the play and the movie had a number of similarities that made the story fascinating but then, the differences made the movie stood out more. Because of its details and visual settings, the movie additionally formed a better understanding of the story as a whole.
First, one of the similarity in both the play and the movie is the pregnancy of Elizabeth Proctor, spouse of John Proctor. In both the play and the movie, three months after the accusation, Elizabeth was sentenced to be executed for hiding the …show more content…
This made the movie better because it enable the audience to understand what is going on in the movie when oth John Proctor and his wife Elizabeth were arrested and were about to be hanged. The movie and the play tells us that Abigail and Mercy stole 31 pounds, half of Parris’ yearly salary and boarded a ship in the night. On the other hand, there are a number of differences that made the movie much better in my opinion. First, in the movie it began with the main cause of the Salem witch trial, which was the girls dancing in the woods. In the play however, it was only described with few words, the play started in the room where Betty is laid unconscious. The movie shows the girls sneaking out at night, trying their best to not wake up the town, and the events were displayed visually rather than in discription like the play. Because the movie included this, it clarifies the story better to the
