The Crusades had a general lack of evidence, in the cases of both the First and Children's Crusade there were great similarities in the unfortunate paucity of objective evidence. In many instances, the evidence that scholars are basing their claims on can be biased or dramatized, and even the authors themselves can have separate opinions and specific views. But the main connection I will be making between the First and Children’s Crusade is the idea of escapism. At the time, life for the lower class majority was dismal. The idea of an escape or the act of leaving something behind was critical in both of these crusades.
