Christopher Boome wants to be independent but because of his condition, it makes this a difficult task. When Wellington is killed Christopher takes the initiative to find out who the murderer despite his Fathers wishes. From this Christopher shows us that he has taken this challenge (to become independent) and conquers this obstacle.
