The electric guitar helped transform country music and blue in many ways. The electric guitar first came apparent in country music and then later in blues music. The steel guitar was the first electric guitar. This replaced the dobro as the instrument of choice for lap guitarists. It was critical to influencing country music because it started giving country music a more defined style, transitioning from the traditional music style to a new style called "western swing".
