I will use journalist as a focus of the evolution of media. It’s amazing to me to think that only decades ago could we rely on the “news” at a certain time on a couple of TV channels or in the newspaper or radio and at that only by “qualified” professionals. Through the advancement of technology though, many ports have been opened that allow the beginner journalist a seat at the table. The ease of using an I-phone, creating a blog or even an “APP” has cut through the time and cost it takes to be a seasoned veteran. This can be a good thing because it gives an opportunity to many more people than what would have been previously available. You’re able to see more rounded out perspectives. However with this also come many challenges. The “gatekeepers” typically had this responsibility to deal with especially on the negatives sides of it. They have been trained and commissioned to handling this responsibility. Kind of like if it is you’re only job than you are responsible for just that. We see more frequently now mass hysteria or jumping to conclusions because of one amateur journalist’s perspective and often times it is taken out of context. Then when something very negative and/or hurtful happens then they are caught in a bad position or worse. Most amateur journalists don’t have the backing, support and/or training to fully understand the consequences of their actions because not everybody wants to know what’s going on outside of
