A major theme in the gospel of John is the revelation of God to humanity through Jesus Christ. The introduction to the book of John describes how the Word, later revealed as Jesus Christ, has existed before creation as one with God as well as how He became flesh. The word for “Word” in the original Greek is logos which means “reason.” I think that the author of this gospel refers to Jesus as the Word instead of the Son of God or Son of Man because Jesus is the “reason” for the gospel, or good news. Titles like “Son of God” and “Son of Man” give the impression that Jesus came from God or came from Man; however, referring to Jesus as the Word, the “reason,” allows the audience to see more clearly that Jesus already existed “in the
