Do you have a hero? Who do you consider to be a hero? What makes an individual a hero? The dictionary defines a hero as someone who is admired for their achievements and noble qualities. However, I think a hero can also be an inspirational person with qualities such as courage and perseverance. Good morning/afternoon everyone, today I will be presenting what qualities make a hero and someone I consider heroic. An inspiring individual I consider a hero is Marie Curie, a pioneer in the field of radioactivity.

Marie Curie’s life is a perfect example of this. A stage of the hero’s journey present in Marie Curie’s life is the Call to Adventure. Marie Curie had been interested in science from a young age and was encouraged by her parents, who were both teachers. After her mother died, Marie was raised by her father, and she became more and more interested in physics and mathematics. Another stage in her life is Crossing the Threshold. In 1891, Marie moved from Poland to France to study at the Sorbonne. She wanted to receive a higher education in Paris, where women were allowed to attend university. Marie lived meagerly; she studied during the day and tutored during the evenings to make a living. Marie Curie also experienced the stages of Tests, Allies, and Enemies. While studying in France, Marie Curie met Curie. Pierre Curie later became her husband, research partner, and significant ally throughout her life. Marie Curie encountered many setbacks in her Hero’s Journey. She was almost excluded from winning the Nobel Prize due to the discrimination she faced as a woman. Luckily, a member of the nominating committee intervened, and Marie Curie was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in
