To protect the rights of the people of the United States from the infringement by the federal government, the creators of the Constitution created Ten Amendments which were adopted in 1791(). The Ten Amendments are known as the Bill of Rights; it was made in an effort to ensure that people had the basic rights that they did not have while under the rule of the British. Throughout the years, we have added Amendments to the constitution and now have a total of twenty-seven Amendments, but the first ten Amendments are still the most essential Amendments in our nation. While all of the ten Amendments are essential to our daily lives; the most important one is the First Amendment which give s us the right to freedom of speech, freedom of press, and freedom of religion. …show more content…
For example, the Nineteenth Amendment would have never been achieved if people like Susan B. Anthony, Alice Paul, and Lucy Stone were not able to advocate and promote the idea of women having a right to vote (Women). Through protests, rallies, marches, and forms of literature; they were able to get women's rights. Another example of an Amendment created through exercising the rights issued in the First Amendment is the Thirteenth Amendment. The thirteenth Amendment was created to ratify slavery and would not exist if people like Frederick Douglass, William Lloyd Garrison, and Angelina Grimke could not share their ideas and opinions and promote the abolishing slavery cause (Abolitionists).
