The integumentary system is what protects the body from damage and is the largest organ. It protects if from numerous things like water loss, cuts, and scrapes. It is to cushion, and waterproof the organs. Also it protects them from harm. The integumentary system regulates temperature, excretes waste, maintains homeostasis, detects things like temperature, pain, maintains, and any sort of pressure. The integumentary system is very important to survival.
The integumentary consists of a few main organs. Those organs are the skin, hair, nails. The skin consists of two layers which are the epidermis and dermis. The hair is to protect the body from things like dust particles. The nail is on the tip of the finger and it protects the finger. These are the main organs in the integumentary system.
The skin consists of two layers. The first layer is the epidermis which covers the whole body and is made of Stratified squamous epithelium Keratinocytes and has five layers. The stratum corneum composed from dead skin cells and that contain keratin and are surrounded by lipids which acts as a barrier and protects the body from chemicals, infections, and dehydration. The second layer is called the stratum lucidum which is a thin translucent layer. The third layer is called stratum granulosum in this layer keratin and lipids are being produced. The forth layer is calledstratum spinosum it is made ofpolyhedral keratinocytes and is sometimes called the spinous layer because of how the cells look like. The fifth layer called the stratum basale it is the deepest layer of the epidermis and this layer contains melanin which gives color to
