Throughout the history of the United States, the essential objective of its foreign policy has been to secure the nation’s interests. The United States has taken military and economic foreign policy actions to achieve that goal. There actions have resulted in varying degrees of success. Fighting the Mexican-American War was an action taken by the United states to protect its national interests. Another Action taken was the building of the Panama Canal.
