He is originally from Santa María Asunción, a small town in south-western Mexico with a population of 144 people. This small town is very rural and has little access to the internet, nonetheless cell phones. As a child, my father immigrated to the U.S. without his parents with only his older brothers. They made a living for themselves and built families over time. Thus I was born. As a child, I was surrounded by Hispanic culture. There was always a telenovela on in the background, mariachi band music playing, and Spanish being spoken all around me. In my father's family, they still speak the indigenous Mixtec language. My father also speaks fluent English and Spanish making him trilingual. Unfortunately, I didn’t get to embrace this side as much as I’d have liked to. After the divorce between my father and mother, I didn’t really see all that much of my father. This was due to the unhealthy relationship my parents had. But recently I’ve had more contact with him and that part of my heritage. I hope to learn more in-depth about the Mixtec and myself. But some of the things I most enjoyed from my Hispanic side is the quinceaneras. I remember going to all of my older cousins 15th birthday parties and being so excited. The girls always had beautiful dresses and the party was always huge. I also enjoy all of the food. Mostly the desserts like tres leches(sponge cake soaked in 3 types of milk) and pan dulce(sweet
