The NFL is no stranger to controversy; controversies like the concussion cover up have put into question the NFL brand. But very few incidents have caused as much outcry as the events that transpired on September 1st, 2016. This day marked one of the most controversial moments in sports history as Colin Kaepernick took a Knee for the first time during the national anthem to protest these injustices. Hysteria swept the country as many individuals claimed how disrespectful his actions were to the troops. Even president trump got his two cents on the matter “Get that son of a bitch off the field”. Before this incident Kaepernick was atop of the football world; he took his team to the Super Bowl and was one of the highest paid quarter backs in the game. He decided to use his platform and status as an NFL quarterback to peacefully protest racial injustices in the United States. Stories of police shooting and killing on unarmed black individuals were flooding news stations. These actions effectively lead to Kaepernick being blacklisted from the NFL even though many convicted individuals are given multiple chances in the NFL. Unlike these players Kaepernick was costing the NFL money he was a threat to their pockets, so he was disposed
