In chapter one The Rise of the Rest, we can see Zakaria establish his thesis of the book which is how America will remain the most powerful country in the world even when it’s relative powers are gone. Zakaria mentions three shifts throughout the last five hundred years, the shift to the power of the West during the Renaissance, the United States becoming a superpower (Zakaria,1-2). The last stage is what Zakaria says should be called The Rise of the Rest (Zakaria, 2), which is now happening during the modern era which we are living through right now. Zakaria tries to compare the two nations by using he 1890s and Boer War for Britain and the US in the 2000s and the start of the Iraq War (Zakaria, ). The difference between them is that Britain lost its economic dominance due to having an unsurpassed political power, when the US in the 2000s had a faltering political influence resulting a huge economic power (Zakaria, ). Zakaria defends the US from indicators that suggest American decline but warns that internal partisan politics that domesticate the ideologic of attack groups, as well as special interest powers, and a sensationalistic media are weakening the federal government’s ability to adjust to the new global
