Water is the most valuable resource on Earth. It is an essential component that is linked to every organism in the world. A life without water is unimaginable for most people. As humans, we have a common misconception that the world’s resources do not run out. Well now, water is becoming a very scarce resource in the world. In the article “The New Oil” by Jeneen Interlandi published by Newsweek, it says that more countries in the world are running out of fresh water and becoming more desperate, most of these countries are near, or in the Middle East. While other places, like Russia or Alaska, have an abundant amount of clean water from the melting glaciers. Critics believe that water should never become a privatized resource because it’s a necessity. If companies started to control water prices, they would be raised beyond belief and it would become very limited to the public. Also, it’s a matter of ethics because the main company in Sitka, True Alaska Bottling, will end up selling water to the large corporation, who can provide a lot of cash. While countries in the world like Bolivia are feeling the worst effects of massive droughts. On the other hand, supporters say that it will help local state governments because they have the ability to sell their own water.
