The Progressive Era took place around the 1890s to 1920s; the century of business expansion. New incomers from other countries and current people in America wished for not only businesses, but society to become safer to live in. Due to immigration, places like home and work become overcrowded. The environment was growing very filthy, and most of everything wasn’t clean and safe to live in. When it came to political voting, there was corruption. A big example is Boss Tweed. He had changed the count of votes, changing government roles. Women and African Americans could not vote, so there was some inequality. Women weren’t paid fairly, and the work was harsh. They were to sit for hours on end and not speak. Any mistakes took money from their checks.
