The American Dream is still alive today. But the act of immigrating to the US is different today than it was in early America and even the 1900's. Had you ever imagined that people came to the US, but didn't stay? It had never crossed my mind to be honest. But its true; the US, for some, isn't the safe haven they imagined it to be, but that harsh reality has become less common. 37% of immigrants in the 1900's went back to their homelands. Jokes aside, disadvantages of immigration, illegal immigration are very real. Even though the economy is generally thought to be benefited by immigrants, more than $6000 in welfare taxes are spent per immigrant household. Lots of taxes are spent to provide for immigrants and many of them take advantage of Government programs. Crime rate is another problem immigration presents to us. About 70,000 non US citizens are in our country's prisons and more than 170,000 immigrants are deported as criminals each year. Those that actually work hard in America but are not citizens live in fear of deportation. So, they are susceptible to abuse and poor working conditions. That is not good. Lastly overpopulation is a huge issue. The US is growing rapidly and the amount of public services and facilities simply can't keep
