Abstract
For centuries, policing has been trying to protect civilians, while experiencing turmoil because of unprofessionalism and lack of training. This has led to a more structured policing in today’s society. Policing and law enforcement has improved throughout the years by forming new agencies such as: federal law enforcement agencies, state law enforcement agencies, county law enforcement agencies, and even private policing to help increase effectiveness in solving crimes. However, there are still problems in policing involving the stress they face, violence and brutality.

Villagers and landowners protected their territories with a “pledge system” to patrol their own minor problems. When more serious crimes occurred, the constable was appointed to supervise the problems of the community. In the thirteenth century larger cities used watchmen to protect the community from crimes of their time. As the population increased and the eighteenth century began, crime became more of a concern, which resulted in a private form of police. Private police agents, known as “thief takers”, captured criminals and returned stolen property, yet acted in a corrupt manner. They used violence, torture, and even kill to obtain their objective. For example, assisted suicide, stalking, community notification laws, technology control, protecting the environment and marihuana legalization are new laws to help with the effectiveness of policing. An assisted suicide is when a doctor helps the patient take his or her own life. Stalking laws, which were created to protect women from a spouse, or boyfriend. Community notification laws require the registration of sex-offenders who have been convicted to alert neighborhoods of predators in the area. Technology control was created to control cyber crimes and prevent fraud. Protecting the environment was created to protect the nation’s well being. Lastly, legalizing marihuana will help patients in need. Though if caught with medicinal marihuana and a place where is not legalized patient can get
