Segregation was a real thing back in the 30’s and it was horrible. A person who shows how bad segregation was in her eyes is Cassie Logan. Cassie was protected from segregation because of her parents. I will write about how things happening towards her and her family and friends. But once she started going to school her perspectives changed. Then what happened in the Wallaces store. Finally what made her fully change her mind and mature about the world around her was white people killing T.J just because white people claimed murdered someone. It was Cassie's first day of school and she was really excited. Once she got there with her brothers everything was what she expected, until they passed out the books. “That's what you are” replied Miz Crocker. Furthermore an event took place when she was ordering something at Wallace's store with her brothers. They were waiting in line for about 10 minutes and the cashier suddenly left. They then waited for about an hour until deciding to search for him. He was in the back helping a white customer. “Uh . . . ‘scuse me, Mr. Barnett” Cassie says as trying to get his attention. But he didn't respond as he was engulfed in his task. “I think you forgot, but you was waiting on us ‘fore you was waiting on this girl here, and we been waiting a good while now for you to get back” she said. She then tugged on his shirt sleeve. He jumped back as if she hit him and Cassie said “Y-you was helping us”

This is what only happened at the store tho. When she walked out she had bumped into Mrs. Lillian Jean. Mrs. Lillian Jean told her to apologize to her. Cassie did apologize to her but it wasn't good enough for Mrs. Lillian Jean. She told Cassie to go into the street. Mrs. Lillian Jean said “You can't watch where you goin, get into the road. Maybe that way you won't be bumping into decent white folks with your little nasty self.”
She then forced cassie into the state but cassie resisted and backed away. Then someone caught her from behind and pushed her down into the street. It was Mr. Simms, Mrs. Lillian Jean’s father.
