Sanctuary Model: This model is based upon four foundations of trauma theory, non-violence, social learning and complexity theory. The Sanctuary Model aims to create cultures that counteract the effects of violence (trauma sensitive cultures). A trauma sensitive culture is one that understand human behavior pathology is related to experiences of exposure to abusive power, disabling losses, and disrupted attachment; therefore, individuals involved with a consumer’s care must understand and respond within the context of the dynamics.
