One thing that each battle had in common was Beowulf wanting to kill the monster by himself. He was able to do so until the last battle. He overcame impossible feats that ordinary humans couldn't possibly overcome. In the first battle, he ripped off Grendel, the powerful beats arm. This injury resulted in the death of the beast and the victory of Beowulf. In the second battle, Beowulf picked up a sword made by the giants that no ordinary man could lift, resulting in a second victory. Lastly, in the third battle, Beowulf was able to survive a blast of the dragon's fire breath, and with Wiglaf’s help, kill the dragon. In all three battles he was a successful
